Universal Stylus Guide: Which MEZON Stylus Is Right for You?
MEZONShare
A stylus does not have to be a high-tech electronic pen to be useful. For everyday touchscreen control, a simple capacitive stylus can solve a surprisingly practical problem: your finger is excellent for broad taps and swipes, but it is not always the most precise tool for a small on-screen keyboard, tiny links, checkboxes, drawing apps or repeated navigation.
The MEZON Styluses collection takes a deliberately simple approach. There are three universal capacitive stylus styles — two full-size options and one compact Mini — plus a universal wrist lanyard for small devices and accessories. The styluses are designed to work with capacitive touchscreens across phones and tablets, including devices such as iPad, iPhone, Samsung Galaxy and Microsoft Surface. They are lightweight, colourful and require no device-specific ecosystem to perform ordinary touch input.
1. What is a universal capacitive stylus?
A universal capacitive stylus is best thought of as a more controlled substitute for a fingertip. Its soft conductive tip interacts with a capacitive touchscreen so you can tap, swipe, type and make simple marks without relying on a bare finger.
That makes these styluses particularly useful for:
- More deliberate typing: useful when small virtual keyboard keys feel cramped.
- Navigation: tapping smaller icons, links, menus and controls with a more defined contact point.
- Casual drawing and annotation: suitable when you want simple touchscreen input rather than professional active-pen functions.
- Shared devices: a pack of 10 can be distributed around a home, office, reception desk or shared-device area.
- Reducing direct finger contact: useful if you prefer fewer visible fingerprints on the screen.
Important distinction: these are universal capacitive styluses, not active digital pens such as Apple Pencil, Samsung S Pen or Microsoft Surface Pen. They are designed to reproduce ordinary touchscreen input; they do not add hardware features such as pressure sensitivity, Bluetooth shortcuts, palm rejection or device-specific pen functions to a screen that does not already support them.
2. The three MEZON stylus types compared
| Product | What makes it different? | Best for | Important note |
|---|---|---|---|
| Premium Universal Stylus | 10cm pen-style body, colourful metallic finish and polished metal-style clip details. | Regular phone/tablet use when you prefer a more pen-like, polished design. | Passive capacitive control — it does not add active-pen features. |
| Universal Stylus | Similar everyday capacitive function with simpler black clip detailing and a slightly different colour assortment. | Households, offices and shared-device use where simple, lightweight styluses are the priority. | Functionally very similar to the Premium listing; choose mainly by styling and colour preference. |
| Mini Stylus with Dust Plug | Compact 4.3cm body with a tethered dust plug designed for a 3.5mm headphone jack. | Maximum portability and devices that still have a 3.5mm audio socket. | The stylus works on capacitive screens, but the dust-plug storage feature needs a 3.5mm jack. |
| Universal Wrist Lanyard | 18cm fully extended, 14cm wrist opening; nylon construction. | Phones, cameras, badge holders, keys and other small items with a suitable attachment point. | This is a retention strap, not a stylus, and it should not be treated as fall-proof under excessive force. |
3. Premium Universal Capacitive Stylus Pens: the more polished full-size option
The Premium model is the most conventional pen-like stylus in the collection. It is 10cm long, lightweight and designed for longer touchscreen sessions without feeling cumbersome. The current product description emphasises universal capacitive compatibility, more precise control for typing and everyday browsing, and the ability to reduce direct fingerprints on the display.
Visually, the Premium stylus also has the most polished finish of the three. The product photography shows colourful metallic barrels paired with bright metal-style clip hardware. The 10-colour assortment is Green, Purple, Dark Blue, Sky Blue, Gold, Light Pink, Hot Pink, Black, Red and Silver.
Who should choose it? This is the strongest option if you want a stylus that feels more like keeping a small pen beside your phone or tablet. It is particularly easy to imagine one at a desk, one in a handbag, one near the sofa and several shared among family members.
4. Universal Capacitive Stylus Pens: simple everyday touchscreen control
The standard Universal Stylus has essentially the same core purpose as the Premium version: it works with capacitive touchscreens, provides a more defined contact point than a fingertip, and is designed to be lightweight enough for extended use. The product description again highlights typing, email, chat, drawing and web browsing as typical uses.
So what is the difference from Premium? The current product descriptions do not claim a major functional difference. The practical distinction is primarily styling and colour selection. Product photography shows a simpler black clip treatment, and the standard colour mix includes Orange where the Premium assortment lists Gold. The remaining colours are Green, Purple, Dark Blue, Sky Blue, Light Pink, Hot Pink, Black, Red and Silver.
Who should choose it? If you simply want a pack of lightweight universal styluses for everyday phones and tablets and do not particularly care about the Premium clip/finish, the standard version is the straightforward choice. A 10-colour pack also makes it easy to assign different colours to different people or devices.
5. Mini 4.3cm Stylus with Dust Plug: the portability specialist
The Mini version shrinks the same basic capacitive-stylus idea into a 4.3cm body. It is the most portable option and adds a feature the other two do not have: a tether ending in a dust plug designed for a 3.5mm headphone jack.
On a compatible device, that plug gives the Mini stylus a convenient storage point instead of leaving a tiny stylus loose in a pocket or bag. The product description still lists the same broad capacitive compatibility and everyday uses — typing, chat, drawing and web navigation — but the design clearly prioritises portability over a full pen-like grip.
One important modern-device caveat: the stylus itself can still be used on a compatible capacitive touchscreen, but the dust-plug attachment is specifically for a 3.5mm audio socket. Many recent phones and tablets no longer have that port, so check your device if the tethered storage feature is important to you.
The Mini pack uses a bright 10-colour assortment: Green, Purple, Dark Blue, Sky Blue, Gold, Light Pink, Hot Pink, Black, Red and Silver.
6. Universal Wrist Lanyards: not a stylus, but a useful small-device accessory
[10 Pack] MEZON Universal Wrist Lanyard Straps – Black Colour, Strong and Durable Nylon Material
The wrist lanyard is included in the same MEZON collection, but it serves a completely different purpose. It is a retention strap for small objects with a suitable attachment point. MEZON lists phones, digital cameras, badge holders, keychains, name tags and MP3 players among the possible uses.
Each black nylon strap measures approximately 18cm fully extended, with a 14cm wrist opening. The product is described as lightweight, strong and water/weather resistant, while also cautioning users not to subject it to excessive force.
A 10-pack is useful precisely because wrist straps have many small jobs: one can stay on a compact camera, another with keys, another on an ID holder, and spares can be kept for devices or accessories that have a compatible loop point.
Do not assume the lanyard attaches directly to every stylus. It is a universal small-item strap, so the item you want to secure needs an appropriate attachment hole or loop.
7. Which MEZON stylus should you choose?
- Choose the Premium Universal Stylus if you want a full-size, pen-like feel with the more polished metallic styling and clip detail.
- Choose the standard Universal Stylus if your priority is straightforward everyday capacitive control in a colourful 10-pack.
- Choose the Mini Stylus if portability matters most — especially if you have a device with a 3.5mm headphone jack and want to use the built-in dust-plug tether.
- Choose the Wrist Lanyards when your problem is not touchscreen input at all, but keeping small devices or accessories more securely attached to your wrist.
8. Why a 10-pack can be more useful than one stylus
A passive stylus is the sort of accessory that tends to be most useful when it is already where you need it. A single stylus can easily migrate from desk to bag to kitchen bench and disappear at exactly the wrong moment. A 10-pack changes the way the product can be used.
- Keep one beside each frequently used tablet.
- Assign different colours to different family members.
- Place several around a workplace or shared-device area.
- Keep spares in a handbag, backpack, car console or travel pouch.
- Use different colours to distinguish devices or work tasks.
The customer feedback visible on MEZON's stylus listings also reflects these everyday use cases: buyers mention the lightweight feel, convenient size, colours and the usefulness of having a more deliberate touch point for phone typing.
9. What these styluses can — and cannot — replace
Universal compatibility is one of the biggest advantages of a capacitive stylus, but it is important to understand what “universal” means. It means the tip is designed to perform ordinary capacitive touchscreen input across compatible phones and tablets. It does not mean the stylus becomes an Apple Pencil, S Pen or Surface Pen.
| Task | Universal capacitive stylus | Active pen such as S Pen / Apple Pencil / Surface Pen |
|---|---|---|
| Tap, swipe and navigate | Yes | Yes |
| Type on an on-screen keyboard | Yes | Yes |
| Simple drawing / marking | Yes, as ordinary touch input | Yes, often with pen-specific features |
| Pressure sensitivity | No active pressure data | Device/pen dependent |
| Palm rejection | Not added by the stylus | Often supported on compatible devices |
| Brand-specific shortcuts | No | May be available |
For precision art, handwriting recognition or pressure-sensitive brush work, a device-specific active pen is the better tool. For simple navigation, typing, browsing and casual touchscreen control across many different devices, the appeal of a universal capacitive stylus is its simplicity.
10. Frequently asked questions
Will these styluses work with an iPhone or iPad?
They are designed for capacitive touchscreens and MEZON specifically lists iPhone and iPad among compatible device types. They provide ordinary touch control; they do not reproduce Apple Pencil-specific features.
Will they work with Samsung Galaxy phones and tablets?
They are designed for ordinary capacitive input on compatible Galaxy touchscreens. On an S Pen-capable Galaxy device, however, they remain simple capacitive styluses and do not become S Pens.
What about Microsoft Surface?
MEZON lists Microsoft Surface among the compatible capacitive touchscreen families. Again, the stylus provides ordinary touch input rather than Surface Pen-specific functionality.
Does the Mini dust plug fit USB-C or Lightning?
No. The product description specifies a dust plug for a 3.5mm headphone jack. If your device has no 3.5mm socket, you can still use the capacitive tip on a compatible touchscreen, but you cannot use that plug as intended for storage.
Is the Wrist Lanyard designed only for phones?
No. MEZON lists a wide variety of small items including phones, digital cameras, badge holders, keychains, name tags and MP3 players. The item simply needs a suitable loop or attachment point.
Can a capacitive stylus prevent screen scratches?
Using a soft stylus tip reduces direct fingernail contact and can help keep fingerprints off the screen, but a stylus is not a substitute for a screen protector. Keep both the stylus tip and the display clean, because hard grit trapped between any object and the screen can cause marking.
